HS-Tags are unique values that can be configured and paired with tags in the Dashboard to be automatically applied to new Issues when metadata or Custom Data thresholds are met. These tags appear in your Dashboard and allow you to organize, segment, and prioritize your users.

A set of HS-Tags as listed on the metadata tab of the Issue Details page

There are no predefined HS-Tags in the SDK; developer resources are required to add HS-Tags into your Dashboard. If you plan to use tags to categorize Issues, it’s essential that you meet with your developer to plan a set of HS-Tags that will best serve your support team’s needs.

Once a tag gets added to an Issue, you can run Automations, filter to Smart Views, and report on tags in Analytics. The tags added from the contact us form will reflect in your last week, month, and 3 month tag reports.

Here are some recommended HS-Tags for you to implement if you have a monetized app:

  • Paid: User has spent money in your app
  • VIP: Users who have exceeded one or more thresholds (Ex: Spent more than $50 and App Sessions are greater than 2 per day)
  • Tier 0, 1, 2, 3, 4: Organize your Users based on serviced tiers, usually based on money spent:
    • Tier 0: $0
    • Tier 1: $1-50
    • Tier 2: $50-100
    • Tier 3: $100-500
    • Tier 4: <$500
  • New User: Users who have used your app for the first few times (5 App Sessions or less). If you are spending a lot of money on your user acquisition, this is a great way to help those who you just spent $.50 to $4 to install your app.
  • Users who downloaded your app from a certain App Store: Amazon, Google Play (other Android App Stores)
  • App Version
  • Identify if User has a test/Beta app, regional one (China, Russia), or localized one (French, Spanish)

A set of active tags as seen in the ‘tags’ section of the Helpshift Dashboard

To create HS-Tags for use in the Dashboard, you’ll need to add them to your Dashboard (all in lowercase). Please see How do I create and use tags? to complete this step.

Once you’ve added all the relevant tags, you’ll need to work with your developer to integrate them at the SDK level. Please direct your developer to our developer documentation on attaching tags to metadata in iOS and Android.
